| Who: |
Teams of a coach and five high school students (four members and an alternate)
in grades 9 - 12 from high schools and home schools. See Strategies
for Success. |
| What: |
Round robin and double elimination contests with oral question and
answer rounds in the fields of chemistry, biology, physics, astronomy
and mathematics plus general and earth sciences. Questions will be
given in a toss-up with a bonus format. For additional information

| Why: |
There are many benefits to participating. DOE believes this activity will help provide a technically trained and diverse work force for the nation and enhance American scientific and technical literacy, especially in energy, the environment and the impact of science on the economy. |
| Awards: |
The top team from each region wins an expense paid trip to the
national competition in Washington, DC, April 30 – May 5,
2009. Trophies
will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, & 4th place
teams. Some WSU scholarships will be available. Sportsmanship and
All Star Awards
will be granted. |
| To Enter: |
There is NO team registration fee, thanks to the generosity of our corporate
sponsors. Submit the preliminary registration
form online
to indicate initial interest. Submit the National Science Bowl electronic
registration form by February 13, 2009. Up to 48 teams will
be chosen, based on the order that forms are received. |
