Project Description

Frames present an interpretation on issues that may be social or political in nature, with the intent to influence the opinion of an audience. Frames of contention are related to social and political protest. Although, frame analysis has become a popular analytical framework in media studies and social movement research, little effort has been devoted to formalizing the methodological underpinnings of the empirical identification of frames. The goal of this project is to address this gap by researching how Computer-Assisted Qualitative Data Analysis software in combination with Text Analysis and Information Extraction software can be used to identify frames of contention in document collections.
